In 1849, one of Sweden's oldest brands and Sweden's oldest flag factory was founded with the brand SVANEN, which throughout the years has ensured that what leaves our factory in Gävle is always of the highest quality.
In the mid-1800s came freighters from around the world to the port of Gävle,
which was then one of Swedens largest. Large quantities of cotton were shipped from
New Orleans in the US and Manchester, England to Gefle Manufaktur AB,
who was then the city's largest industry.
Gefle Manufaktur AB started (among others by Aftonbladet's founder Lars Johan Hjerta) in 1849 and the Svanen trademark manufactured yarns to the country's large fishing industry, Svanen famous sheeting and Svanen cotton flags.
